This is my story of how they treated me. If you stumbled in here on a search engine, please do yourself and your family a favor and read this before you call or buy.
I wish I had known.New to the area, I chose e-Tex Mechanical to replace the Outside air conditioning unit. I had with a Brand new 4 ton Trane® installed by e-Tex Mechanical. In the past as we have traded houses twice before we have installed new Trane® units with no issues. But they were done by a solid reputable company that is in Dallas, and doesn't come out to Greenville, Quinlan, Wolfe City, Commerce, and surrounding areas.
Gawd, what a mistake. Within 24 hours of install, the unit would not work. 11 more calls in the first year. Every time, tweaking something selling you something, blaming you for something.
Every time, it's your fault, you own pets, or you need to buy a freon warmer, or buy a hard starter kit. It went on & on. Like no one else in the world has pet and air conditioners?
Unit and coils were clean. The unit finally seized and would not restart. A deacon at our church offered to come out and take a second look. He installed another starter to the unit, the hard starts on the faulty compressor had burned the first one up. At this point I was also in the beginning stages of contact with Trane® corporate in Dallas Texas. Within 10 days, it was seizing again. This time Trane® Corporate sent out a independent third party. Their tech came out, ran full inspections on the unit, and was the first to monitor the amperage on the start up of the compressor. Low and behold it's drawing 140 amps (explains why it was blowing the 60 amp fuse and my electric bills have been higher since day one on this new unit.)
Their diagnoses? The compress is faulty. Why? In my humble opinion looking back at day one of the e-Tex install, the unit was over charged, under charged, set improperly, all of those other 11 calls show that. Trane® has offered to replace the compressor. The third party will do it, but not cover the labor since they didn't sell me the unit.
Okay, it was time to call Bob Mangum the owner and founder or e-Tex. I can be calm, I can do this even...
After having met most of e-Tex Mechanical employees, and the service manager(s), I should have known. (that's another whole story, how they treated me.) He went on to explain
to me that he has more degrees than I do in A/C. I agree, I am the consumer he is the expert. He knows nothing is wrong with the unit, and everyone else including me is full of discrepancies, he has more experience, more degrees. I explained I would much rather do this the easy way, then anything other way, even after he inferred to me that's everything is my fault. Bob Mangum said, "well I can battle you out in court for years". Which in my opinion, says he is very experienced at doing just that!
Still waiting on you to call back Bob???

I personally think,
the only thing that can stop a Trane® is eTex Mechanical
Sorry for all the red fonts, but I am a little po'd @ Bob Mangum right now!
Update August 2003
On August 4th, 2003 Trane corporate sent out a Senior Field Service Representative. He worked on the unit, corrected the errors in the original installation. And *poof* the unit can now start, cycle, and not blow the fuses. That day, the house stayed in 70's without having to run the window units. Next two days were the hottest of the summer. 104° in Dallas August 5th, 2003.
First time ever on a hot day, the house without the window units running, stayed cool. Air pumping out of the A/C unit is now 50's. The compressor can cycle on & off without drawing a load that blows the fuse. My utility bills since purchasing this unit have be astronomical. I won't know for another month how much lower they will be, but my guess is they will lower back to the $300 a month range on the old unit, from almost twice that much for a couple of years. Still have not heard from e-Tex the original installer of the Trane unit. I have a couple of years of outrageous monthly electric bills trying to cool the house with an improperly installed unit.
